10 Technologies I love to hate !!

Author: Sally Croft

Technological advancement is a blessing no doubt, but it is not without certain shortcomings that makes them really annoying. We are surrounded by a number of gadgets though really useful often make us grow to hate them due to their continued presence and usage. Well, here is a list of devices which are indispensible yet disturbing.

Keyboards
Keyboards

These proprietary keyboards like the ones used in Blackberry makes me wonder why on earth should someone necessarily learn to type unlike our regular keyboards. It is different to note that you get a period symbol on tapping the spacebar twice. Why should someone learn to do that when a traditional keyboard had an exclusive key on its board? Do you think growing technology is making things easier? I do not feel so. Life is turning out to be more complicated with technological advancements. Except for the field of medicine where you are now in a position to save lives inspite of all odds, no other field is making life easier.

Laptop Batteries
Laptop Batteries

Well, I had been searching for laptops with longer battery backup. Different from the regular 3 hours backup, I was looking for a 6 to 8 hours backup. The advertisements where really promising. While my erstwhile laptop promised me 3 hours initially after two years now, doesn’t support me even for 20 mins.

Ringtones
Ringtones

Ringtones are crazy! You end up calling somebody just to get yourself embarrassed. Unfortunately not many people who subscribe caller tunes or ringtones are hardly disturbed. Imagine a phone singing “Don’t you wish your girl friend was hot like me”? in the middle of a crowded train or bus. Disgusting isn’t it. Do you mean to say even the person carrying the mobile will feel like listening to the song at odd hours of the day? One would call singing a much better option when compared to ringtones where some was crying out in pain every time a person called. Or the calls are mistake for a song that they keep ringing until the last verse. Please spare us is all what I would like to say. After all this, a regular tring… tring… sounds great! What do you say?

Laptop Speakers
Laptop Speakers

Laptops have stereo speakers and fortunately most of them are provided on the keyboard side of the laptop. There are laptops which have the speakers at the bottom of the laptop, literally making you sleep on the desk to listen to what is being told or played. Coming to the sound quality of these laptop speakers, even the best of them have the most average sound quality. It certainly depresses me. Even after paying the huge sums of money we are not satisfied with the sound system, a basic technology after all.

Mobile Phone Cameras
Mobile Phone Cameras

Boy! Why camera in a mobile, instead of a mobile camera (which is anyway). It is a good idea no doubt, affordable ones do not have the picture clarity or image stabilization then why on earth are these features offered. Say you opt for mobiles with better picture clarity; you end up paying twice the price. What for? Dear friends please think twice. I am clear that a mobile is for attending calls and camera for taking pictures and I can carry it when needed, so what is your problem.

RPTVs
RPTVs

Rear Projection Television sets, it’s been ages since the technology was used, was my opinion. I was wrong; one of the show rooms I visited still had RPTVs, not remnants but new models. In this age of HDTV’s and their price as low as RPTVs I wonder who will ever get them. May be I am wrong there are either people who call it their custom to buy RPTVs or scared of experimenting new technology.

GSRs
GSRs

Graphical Search Representations is a utility offered by Google where your search results in a graphic form. There is no point is getting a graphical representation of primary results and other related topics. It just makes the search results even more cluttered. I personally do not appreciate the utility offered y Google.

3D VR Glasses
3D VR Glasses

3D goggles is a must for watching movies in 3D technology. Already wearing glasses makes me look like a four eyed pirate. Leave alone the looks, what about the eye strain. Watching a 3D movie is more a pain than a pleasure. I wonder how those gaming freaks enjoy playing 3D games in their PCs, must be truly passionate, its all entertainment and no comfort at all.

Earphones
Earphones

Earphones may look absolutely astonishing and probably every ear has one. But there are reasons why one will hate them. Lucky are those who have ear buds or earphones stay in their ears, it is either I have a small ear or that the buds just do not stand in my ears. And those chords through which the music travels keeps dangling and instantaneously pulls away those ear buds carefully fixed in my ears. Sometimes things go so bad that music becomes an irritation than a relaxation. Life is uncertain no doubt, but ear phones especially those in- ear head phones makes the pleasure of listening thoroughly uncertain.

Micro SD Cards
Micro SD Cards

Today you get the best of storage in the form of Micro SD Cards, even upto 32GB storage space. Inserting these cards into your phone gives the storage of expensive phones. It is all about of the size of the card. It is no bigger than your pinky so just imagine how difficult it is to handle. Yesterday as I was inserting the card into the slot in my mobile which requires entirely removing the battery cover unlike other high end mobiles which have an easy to use slots for Micro SD cards, I almost lost it. After great difficulty I found it later under the wheel of my office chair. Huh! It was indeed stupid of me to have lost such a tiny thing.

Hmmm.. I’ll go with Mobile Camera one…
Certainly cell phones are used for making calls and that’s why they are cell phones..
So adding a camera to it.. Nah i don’t think its the way to go, and sometimes the camera and other stuff which is included in the cell phones hang and they stop working. Which really annoys me. So camera should be a camera and let the cell phone be a cell phone.. :D

For me the ultimate hate item would be the battery. I wish they could invent a battery charger that’s solar powered so I don’t have to plug and unplug my cables every two hours when the battery runs out on my laptop.

  7. We have been years trying to decide whether to buy a laptop. When we saw the HP notebook we got much closer and then we saw the ACER…the same thing for less! I have been using ours almost daily. It is so nice to sit with my wife in the evenings and either research on the net or watch a movie on it or just write a letter while she does something else. It was so easy to set up opens quickly everything I had hoped. We have not had the opportunity to exercise the wireless capability away from our home signal yet so can not comment on that. The only thing I wish is that there was more volume from the speakers. We are both 62 and the hearing is not what it used to be. Great product. At least for the 1st 30 days! Only drained the battery once and it exceeded the 6.5 hour limit. I would not go without my desktop but this product is an outstanding addition.

I agree with almost everything, except the laptop speakers. I do agree that no matter what brand you try they will always sound average, I mean laptops normally have average integrated sound cards, but if you don’t move your laptop that much or have a special place for it at home then you could get a set of speakers with a subwoofer, it should cost you around 40 bucks and that sound quality should be far better than whatever USB speakers you have tried before.

However it requires a power outlet, so I you’re half right =D
