What Great Lakes Offers for Borrowers and Lenders
Great Lakes make available to students all the federal loans that are out there through the governments FFELP (Federal Family Education Loan Program). It even has Stafford loans that make available some cash for each year a student is in college. Many of the loans are subsidized by the United States government based on need, so a student will not have to pay interest until they finish school. This really helps reduce the cost of education because the government pays the interest until the student is ready to make payments when their schooling is complete. Even students with unsubsidized loans can benefit by opting to pay interest while in school which reduces compounding interest down the road when they are ready to make full payments.
Great Lakes Works with the Federal Government to Help Higher Education
Great Lakes offers other federal loans like PLUS loans, that are made available to the parents of students in all four years of study and to postgraduates in addition to Stafford loans. These loans are offered with a low credit score standard, which can be satisfied using a co-signer. Federal government loans are made available with FFEL also straight from the United States Department of Education. By handling FFEL student loans, Great Lakes give private investors a chance to get into the FFEL market.
Great Lakes Helps Students Meet their Educational Financial Needs
Great Lakes also make available private or unique student loans, made to join together the financial needs of college students and the investment goal of investors. These kinds loans make it possible for college students to handle additional cost of their education that government loan cannot cover.

Please parents and anybody else who is attending collage and going to borrow money. Ask about if one does not get a job and does not have money to repay years later – can they go on forgiveness. The answer is NO – you still have to pay back – they threaten you and say they will take any income or belongings you have. The economy is bad. My nephew went to college 4 times – only graduated once in 2008 in marketing!!! he is working at a grocery store for 7 bucks an hour part time. He also has medical bills and the student loan co don’t care because they are through the gov. I would rather have my nephew try to pay for his medications so he can breath rather than student loans. Please think of the worse case first before borrowing money. Also, parent loans – yep you are stuck if the student drops out or graduates and doesn’t have have job. Good luck all and please think before you borrow or lend money out. Economy is bad!
When I reached the end of my grace period on student loans. Great Lakes sent me a very nice coupon booklet with a coupon for monthly payments. After a year and the booklet was finished I called Great Lakes and asked for more coupon booklets for my other loans. After waiting for a month I received a call. Great Lakes was informing me that my payment was past due for my loans. How is it I told them I have never received any form of repayment to send them. He read my current address perfectly so it was not because of a miss address. Great lakes apologized and said they will send me the coupons immediately. I received a letter with folded printouts of my coupons ( not in booklet) and as a thank you they still are charging me for the late fee that they caused. Thanks Great Lakes!
Why would you allow someone to apply for a loan and never meet the person in whom you gave the loan to you just give to anyone with someone in formaton and then chase down the wrong person to pay it back?
