No matter what happens in the economy, everything boils down to affect an individual, for everything revolves around the lives of people.
Handling the effect of recession on your career
Handling the impact of recession is a hot topic for discussion across forums. MSN career website had posted a good article on recession’s effect on career and steps to handle them. It is a very useful article given today’s scenario. You should be emotionally stable to accept the reality and exercise tact and strategic planning in getting out of it less hurt.
- New Responsibilities: While it is a season of layoffs, companies are serious not to increase head count. It means added responsibility that requires learning new skills and new work environment. It is time for change, so go with the flow.
- Shifting Priorities: Organizations shift their focus on projects and assignments that generate more revenue and those which are currently in demand. Shelved projects steal the lime light, which means moving to newer projects and learning new technicalities. Be flexible to handle new projects.
- More Accountability: Restricted spending means more accountability for the expenses. Organizations welcome every contribution towards cost cutting exercises and efficient money management. Be the first in proactive recommendations.
- Advancement in Chaos: Confusion all around, layoffs represent no further hiring, shifting priorities put certain sections on hold. Expertise and experience can fetch you newer and advanced roles in an organization. While company is cutting cost, you are stepping forward. Ensure effective networking within the organization.
- No bonus: No bonus is better than no job. In a withering economy, sacrifice is essential to move forward. You will be stripped of freebies and flexibilities, accept them and move on.
- Internal Transfers: Reduced cost of networking increases employment opportunities within the organization. A strong and effective networking can fetch you better job inside the organization. Ensure you maintain contact across levels for better job opportunities.

Online degree program is the way to go if you do not have the time to attend classes on a regular basis. Unlike traditional degree program where you need to go to the college itself in order to attend classes, in an online degree program you can attend classes from the comfort of your living room through Internet.
Job promotion:
If you are already working somewhere then after earning an online degree, you will get the promotion in your present job. This happens because your knowledge base and academic qualification increased when you manage to earn an online degree successfully. But to get a job promotion, it is of paramount importance that you earn a degree from an accredited university.
Study material:
In an Online Degree Program, you do not need to prepare notes as most of the online universities provide study material to their students. While getting study material from the university is definitely going to help you in your studies, it is advisable that you also study with text book, as it will give you more comprehensive knowledge of the various topics.

Online degree program is all about accreditation. If the online degree that you have earned is not accredited, it is not going to help you in your career. The pivotal factor here is that employers reject job application of the individuals whose degree is not accredited in nature. To check the accreditation of the university, contact the US Department of Education and also talk with the students that are already enrolled in the university.
